What is Amenorrhea?
Amenorrhea is the absence of the menstrual period.
We can classify amenorrhea into two types:
Primary amenorrhea: one that occurs in women who have never had their periods.
Secondary amenorrhea: one that occurs in women who have had menstrual periods but no longer have. Occurs for a time interval greater than 3 months.
Amenorrhea can have several causes:
- Use of medicines
- Some kind of disease
- Excessive sports or exercise
- If amenorrhea occurs, a doctor should be consulted to check the causes and initiate medical treatment if necessary.
